
This module introduces students to the principles and practices of inclusive education within early childhood settings. It focuses on understanding and supporting children with diverse learning needs, including physical, cognitive, sensory, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Students will explore early identification strategies, intervention methods, and inclusive curriculum design. The module also emphasizes collaboration with families, specialists, and the broader community to ensure that all children—regardless of ability—have equitable access to learning and development opportunities in safe and supportive environments.

This module examines the key educational theories and philosophies that have shaped early childhood education practices globally and in local contexts. Students will engage with the ideas of influential theorists such as Froebel, Montessori, Dewey, Steiner, and Reggio Emilia, exploring how their philosophies influence curriculum, teaching approaches, and learning environments. The module encourages critical reflection on how these theories support child-centered, inclusive, and culturally responsive practices. Learners will also explore Botswana’s national ECE policies and frameworks in relation to global best practices.
